TV9 Gujarati Removed by DD Free Dish

If you are a regular viewer of DD Free Dish, there is an important update you should know. Over the past few months, the platform hasn’t seen any major new channel additions because the recent e-auctions remained unsuccessful or unfilled.

As a result, instead of adding new broadcasters, existing channels are now gradually exiting the platform due to various operational or commercial reasons.

Which Channel Has Been Removed?

The channel that has suddenly been removed from the DD Free Dish transmission is TV9 Gujarati.

  • Platform: It was available for quite some time on the MPEG-4 set-top boxes of DD Free Dish.
  • Replacement: In place of TV9 Gujarati, DD Free Dish has currently introduced a new test slot.

Who Is Affected by This Change?

  • MPEG-2 Users: If you are using an older MPEG-2 set-top box, this removal will have no impact on you since the channel was never a part of the MPEG-2 line-up.
  • MPEG-4 & Gujarati Viewers: If you use an MPEG-4 box—especially if you live in Gujarat and love watching regional content—this will certainly come as disappointing news. TV9 Gujarati was a well-known brand that many viewers will miss.

However, you can still catch other regional alternatives available on MPEG-4 boxes, such as Sandesh News and VTV News Gujarati.

Why Was TV9 Gujarati Removed?

While official announcements from broadcasters can vary, it is widely believed that lower commercial viability or TRP ratings on the DTH platform may have led the broadcaster to pull out. Broadcasters hold the autonomy to discontinue services if the carriage fees or installment structures do not align with their business goals.
