Disney Star and Reliance Jio Merger in Feb 2024
Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries reportedly signed a non-binding term sheet with Walt Disney Co last week in UK London to create the country’s largest media and entertainment business. The 51/49 stock and cash merger is expected to be finalised by February 2024 even as Reliance is keen to wrap it up earlier by January. Reliance Jio is expected to be the larger shareholder with at least 51 percent, while Disney will own 49 per cent in the merged company. Jio Cinema service will also be part of the deal. RIL is likely to pay cash for the controlling stake.
A possible merger would create one of India’s biggest entertainment empires, setting it in competition with Television players such as Zee Entertainment and Sony and streaming giants such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. Once the deal is finalized all Disney Star India channels and Viacom 18 channels will be part one broadcaster.
Many Television Channels are run by both broadcasters such as Star Plus, Colors, Star Bharat, Colors Rishtey, Star Utsav, Star Gold, Colors Cineplex, Star Gold 2, Star Utsav Movies, Colors Cineplex Bollywood, Colors Cineplex Superhits, MTV, MTV Beats, Bindass, and More.
