Govt. to give Free DTH Connections to 8 Lakh Families

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting MIB regarding the Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) scheme at a cost of ₹2539.61 crores for Prasar Bharati. The government intends to distribute over eight lakh DD Free set-top boxes to those people living in remote, tribal, and border areas.

Doordarshan operates 36 Television channels including 28 regional channels and All India Radio operates more than 500 broadcasting centers in India. In the future, it will increase its channel count with New Transponder Frequencies once they receive its Direct to Home DTH service DD Free Dish. Prasar Bharati runs a Lifetime Free DTH service with 170+ TV channels and 50+ Radio channels including Doordarshan and Major Private Broadcaster participated channels.
